The Valrose Institute of Biology (iBV) is a UniCA/CNRS/INSERM research laboratory bringing together 28 internationally visible research teams, supported by a network of 7 scientific and technological platforms (http://ibv.unice.fr/). The institute is located on the Valrose campus in Nice, where teaching takes place, and at the nearby Pasteur II hospital. iBV’s main research areas are molecular cell dynamics, stem cells and developmental biology, and pathophysiological mechanisms (metabolic diseases, nervous system, cancer). iBV provides an exceptional and original scientific environment supported by (i) scientific excellence spanning fundamental, translational and clinical questions, (ii) a broad diversity of model systems, (iii) high-level platforms with dedicated engineers, and (iv) numerous external collaborations with other disciplines (chemistry, physics, applied mathematics, computer science). With 25 nationalities represented, iBV is a highly international and multicultural institute.
The recruited candidate will conduct research within one of the iBV teams focused on developmental genetics. iBV’s work in stem cells, developmental signaling and morphogenesis is internationally recognized. The institute is strengthening and diversifying this major area, as shown by the emergence or development of topics such as cellular biophysics, the biology of sex differences, gene-environment interactions, and the study of asymmetries at molecular and organismal scales. This work is supported by technological development associated with photonic imaging platforms (light-sheet microscopy, two-photon microscopy), cytometry and bioinformatics (single-cell sequencing), and synthetic biology (protein functionalization through genetic code expansion). Depending on their skills and experience, the recruited candidate may strengthen an existing project or initiate a new project within their host team, benefiting from a wide range of genetic models (C. elegans, Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse, sea urchin, yeast). A high-level and productive doctoral and postdoctoral background in genetics and developmental biology, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, creativity, openness and a strong sense of collective work are expected.
