À propos
During my doctoral (2007–2012) and postdoctoral (2012–2015) training, I focused on the study of neurodegenerative processes associated with manganese-induced parkinsonism, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease, with the aim of understanding their underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms and identifying potential therapeutic strategies.
From 2015 onwards, and as a Research Assistant at CONICET, I redirected my expertise towards the study of ocular diseases. I focused on the cellular and molecular events involved in the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), with special emphasis on the retinal pigment epithelium as the primary target of damage. In 2017, I joined a new research group where I initiated a research line focused on the design and development of nanoparticles for the encapsulation, protection, and controlled release of naturally derived bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Within this framework, I developed extensive experience in the physicochemical characterisation of polymeric nanovehicles and their biological evaluation using in vitro cell culture systems, with direct applications in experimental ophthalmology and pharmacology. In 2020, I was promoted to Associate Researcher at CONICET.
Since February 2026, my independent research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying retinal pigment epithelium vulnerability, with particular emphasis on the modulation of redox and inflammatory pathways in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In this context, I have begun to explore shared factors between AMD and depression. In parallel, I am developing a research line aimed to explore therapeutic strategies against viral infections affecting the retina.
