Kinetochores are highly specialized protein structures assembled on centromeric chromatin during mitotic and meiotic cell division. These macromolecular structures serve as the chromosomal attachment sites for connection to spindle microtubules, which drive chromosome congression and segregation into daughter cells. The hundreds of kinetochore proteins identified fulfill a wide range of critical functions including specification of centromeric chromatin, powering chromosome movements, regulation of spindle microtubule dynamics, and checkpoint signaling. The objective of this meeting is to bring together new investigators as well as established kinetochore researchers to present their new findings, learn about the latest unpublished research, and build new collaborations.
Topics include:
• Centromere specification
• Kinetochore structure and function
• Regulation and mechanics of kinetochore-microtubule interactions
• Spindle assembly checkpoint
• Diversity of chromosome segregation mechanisms
