We are delighted to announce the publication of the manuscript recapping the memorable session held just one year ago at the Académie des Sciences in Paris to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the French Society of Cell Biology (Teaser and After movie). This event brought together many members of the Society to enjoy past and prospective talks delivered by the current and former presidents, "a true highlight for our cell biology community".
The manuscript is now freely available in Biology of the Cell (see). It includes brief summaries of the presentations, offering a glimpse into the depth and diversity of our research and community, along with a cartoon of the speakers drawn by our colleague Renaud Chabrier.
This is also an opportunity to emphasize the importance of publishing in Biology of the Cell (link) as a way of supporting the Society. Publishing in this journal is vital to the learned society’s strategic objectives and sustains the society’s missions. The journal now offers a wide range of formats suited to diverse contributions and has joined the Couperin agreement, thereby ensuring broader access and visibility within the academic community (Couperin).
A year after our anniversary celebration, the Society remains as active as ever, with the continued goal of growing our community and supporting members through awards and initiatives. Stay tuned via our website and our LinkedIn and Bluesky pages for regular updates. Take advantage of these opportunities!
For example, the 2025 Photo Contest for the two best images is still open, so don’t forget to vote!
Beyond sponsoring meetings, workshops and symposia highlighted on our site, we are excited to announce the next SBCF annual thematic symposium on "Cell Biology of Eukaryogenesis of Beyond". This one-day event, scheduled for February 3rd 2026, will address one of the most fundamental questions in cell biology: how eukaryotic cells, which many of us study daily, emerged from their ancestors. The program looks already outstanding , you can find more details and register (free registration but mandatory) through a dedicated newletter available here.
Best wishes for this exciting rentrée,
Florence Niedergand and Isabelle Tardieux for the SBCF council
